The most scenic town in the Shan State, Kengtung lies about midway between the Thanlwin River and Mekong River valleys. It is situated 456 kilometers northeast of Taunggyi and 163 kilometers north of the border town of Tachilek opposite Mae Sai, (Thailand). It is 56 miles away from MongLar, a Chinese border town. Kengtung means “Walled City of Tong” and Tong is a reference to the kingdom’s mythical founder, a hermit named Tungkalasi. Historic center for the state’s Khun culture, the town is surrounded by Wa, Shan, Akha and Lahu villages. Kengtung is also known for colorful tribes. Kengtung market is always busy with colorful hill tribes. It serves as one of the most suitable places for ecotourism activities like trekking, mountain-biking and adventure tours. Built around a small lake called Naung Tung, the city is surrounded by three hills, providing beautiful scenery.
Transfer to Yangon (or) Heho or Mandalay airport for flight to Kengtung. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel and orientation tour of Kengtung. Overnight in Kengtung.
Arrive Kengtung airport and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon enjoy an orientation tour of Kengtung; it is a sleepy but historic center for the state’s Khun culture, surrounded by Wa, Shan, Akha and Lahu villages. It is a very pleasant town as it is built around a small Lake, NUNG TUNG LAKE and is dotted with ageing Buddhist temples and crumbling British colonial architecture.
Tour highlights include visit to Shan Lacquer ware making home cottage, Wan Pon “Shan” Village and Shan houses, Wa people village and visit to Standing Buddha Image – it situates at the place where Kengtung was founded about one thousand years ago, continue to ThittapinTaung – the 245 years old dipterocarpus tree planted by King Alaungphaya, the founder of Third Myanmar Dynasty and stroll around the Naung Tong Lake.

Full day excursion to Pin Tauk. Overnight in Kengtung.
After breakfast, visit to Pin Tauk by car (approx. 1 and half hours drive). Continue to Akha and Ann hill tribe villages by hiking. The Ann hill tribe lives on the higher slopes and possesses distinctively different costumes and beliefs from the other hill tribes particularly interest with their black teeth. Picnic lunch would be lunch-box at Pin Tauk Waterfall. After lunch, Visit Yan-Law “Khun” people village, Palaung Village, Kat-Tauk village, Pin-Tauk “Lahu” village. Afterwards, drive back to Kengtung.

Full day excursion to Ho Kyin. Overnight in Kengtung.
After breakfast at Hotel, visit to Kengtung Bazaar to observe the colorful trading of Chinese merchants and of the different minority tribes from this area. Afterwards, travel by vehicle outside Kentung, and trek for about one and half hours to Ho kyin “Akha people villages”, after exploring the village continues for another half hour to Na Phi Phank village, home to both Lahu and Akha people. You will obverse Weaving Works where traditional clothes are made before exporting to Thailand. Continue past two more Akha villages and continue by vehicle to the Khun village of Mong Zine to observe how local blacksmiths make traditional Lahu knives. Return to Kengtung by vehicle.

After breakfast at Hotel, drive to Loimwe (app. 2 hours drive), a former British hill station, Loimwe sites among some of Burma’s prettiest countryside. The main attraction along the way is the scenery on the ascent to Loimwe, which passes through the cool highlands; countless generations have sculpted the contours of the land, enriching the lakes and forests with rice fields and terraces, creating a landscape of profound allure and serenity. It commands a magnificent view of the surrounding area and enjoys a temperate climate. Visit the old colonial governor’s house and an old church. On the way back from Loimwe you will have several stops to visit different villages. “WAN LUN” SHAN VILLAGE, “HO LUP AKHA” VILLAGE where you can see the traditional Akha tribes with their colorful dresses; “NANG CHO” WA VILLAGE and “PANG-Y” Lahu village on the left and right side of the road.
Overnight in Kengtung.
Breakfast at hotel. Morning visit the busiest market of Kengtung and also buffalo market (which takes place once in every 5 days) where one can see the typical products of the region, visit Kabaraye pagoda, beautiful monastery in and Arkhi village near KENGTUNG.
In the early afternoon transfer to Airport for a flight back to Yangon or other destination.
